The Goonies (1985)

1. INCITING INCIDENT

Mikey (Sean Astin) and his friends, The Goonies, are upstairs in his attic when he finds a map that leads to the treasure of the legendary pirate One-Eyed-Willy. Mikey inspires them to go after the fortune so that they can save their neighborhood from being foreclosed. (00:15:38)

2. LOCK IN (End of Act One)

The Goonies find that the entrance to the map begins at an abandoned restaurant that is being used as a hideout by the infamous thieves, the Fratellis. They are discovered by Mama Fratelli (Anne Ramsey), and in danger of being killed until her disfigured son, Sloth, distracts her. The Goonies escape and continue their journey to the treasure. 3. FIRST CULMINATION (Midpoint)

As the Goonies travel down the tunnel towards the One-Eyed-Willy’s fortune, they find the skeleton of the famous treasure hunter, Chester Copperpot. Around his neck Mikey finds a key that unlocks the next chamber. (50:10:12)

4. MAIN CULMINATION (End of Act Two)

The Goonies find One-Eyed-Willy’s Ship and treasure, but unfortunately the Fratellis arrive at the same time. The Goonies are captured, tied up, and forced to walk the plank. (1:24.52)

5. THIRD ACT TWIST

Chunk (Jeff Cohen) and Sloth (John Matuzsak) come to the rescue just at the Goonies are about to drown. Sloth knocks out the Fratelli brothers and releases the Goonies. Mama Fratelli (Anne Ramsey) sets off a booby trap while trying to salvage the treasure and the cave enclosing the ship begins to crumble. The Goonies escape with the help of Sloth and the Fratellis are trapped inside. (1:33:39)
